Transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) guided prostate biopsy is a 15-minute day procedure that uses ultrasound to create a video image of the prostate gland. This image enables your surgeon to guide his biopsies precisely and maximize prostate cancer detection if present.

TRUS is essentially a painless procedure and in most cases is performed under light sedation.

Your surgeon will give you perioperative antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection.

You must take these as prescribed and you must alert your surgeon/hospital if you become unwell after the procedure.

The results of your biopsy are ready to discuss with your surgeon usually within a week.
